August 2021 Holly, Michigan

We have a ton of photos from this rally provided by Joe Gillen, Craig Lechowicz and Steve Johnson.  They are arranged below in four sections – Around the Campground, GM Heritage Center, Waterford Raceway and Pontiac Transportation Museum.  If you missed this rally, you can get a taste of the rally activities by scrolling through these memories.

GM Heritage Center – We had the opportunity to tour the facility that displays some of GM’s collection of classics, show cars, concepts and a GMC motorhome. The photos below capture some of our favorites.

Waterford Raceway – Five daring GMC owners took their motorhomes on parade laps of the Waterford Hills Raceway.  No passing was allowed, so Nancy Donaghue led Carl Shemwell, Tom Giannosa, Tom Aubuchon and Craig Lechowicz the whole way.

Pontiac Transportation Museum – The plan for this museum is to celebrate all products that have a connection to Pontiac, Michigan over the years.  This includes not only cars made by the Pontiac division of General Motors and several other companies, but bikes, scooters and carriages as well.  And of course, the GMC motorhome built in a plant that was originally located a couple miles away.  Bill Bryant rescued the second oldest of all GMCs ever sold (VIN 22) and donated it to the museum.  As you will see from the photo below, it is currently a restoration project waiting to happen.

Notice the condition of the building. Most of the cars are ready to show but the former school is undergoing renovations to function as a museum.

Chief Pontiac is about 15′ tall.
1973 GMC motorhome VIN 22 is the vehicle that was rescued by Bill Bryant to be restored to its original glory for the museum. First step is to create a door in the building through which it can pass to allow restoration to begin inside.
